Responsibility

As global citizens, we are responsible for the well-being of our Planet. Taking care of the Earth and the people who live on it is a key concern of Education for Global Citizenship and Sustainable Development.

In order to achieve a sustainable future, we need to be aware of this collective responsibility and act upon the local and global challenges we are facing. Some of these global concerns requiring collective actions are climate change, health and poverty reduction.

Responsible behaviour can also be shown through our consuming choices: Our daily choices as consumers affect the lives of workers in distant places and the way people live. Sustainable consumption means buying goods and services that do not harm the environment, society and the economy. Although it is predominantly an issue for high-income and emerging economies, consumption is an excellent entry point for teaching about sustainable development and global citizenship. Local consumer action can have a global, social, economic and environmental impact, both today and tomorrow.
