The objective of this research is to describe and compare correct knowledge, incorrect ideas, attitudes, susceptibility and self-efficacy in cases of HIV/AIDS in a group of Colombian adolescents. The sample consists of 222 adolescents of both sexes between the ages of 10 and 18. (Average 14.10 and a typical deviation of 1.925), who belong to a public institution in the city of Cali. This is descriptive correlational research (Montero and León, 2005). The information was gathered by the application of the Colombian adaptation of the HIV-65 scale (Bermúdez, Buela-Casal and Uribe (2005), which measures knowledge, attitudes, susceptibility, and self-efficacy in cases of HIV/AIDS. The results show that the scale obtaining the highest score is that of incorrect knowledge, which suggests that there are still erroneous and mythical concepts about HIV/AIDS. It was also found that there are different meanings depending on age, academic level and sex.
Health education has long been seen as vital to curb the HIV and AIDS epidemic. Schools in Mexico had integrated topics related to sexuality and HIV/AIDS into school health programs, but this led to resistance from certain political and social actors. This literature review clarifies this debate during the last period of educational reform in Mexico. Opponents of school-based sexuality and HIV/AIDS programs based their arguments on tradition and that they are against modernization and secularization of social life. …

Métodos: La población estuvo constituida por 329 estudiantes de los 4tos y 5tos años de dos unidades educativas públicas del municipio Jiménez. La muestra no probabilística la conformaron 208 estudiantes disponibles durante los días pautados para la visita a las instituciones educativas, a quienes se les aplicó un cuestionario con preguntas sobre el VIH/SIDA, prevención y modo de transmisión. …

This think piece highlights the need to protect the education system so that it may also in turn protect. These two perspectives, education a vehicle for reducing the incidence of HIV/AIDS and education itself as being threatened by the disease, are the focus of much of the literature on education and HIV/AIDS. In the past, the education sector itself has focused on its role in prevention; however, it needs to focus more on protecting itself so that it can continue to work on educating others. The authors use the conclusion to highlight a sense of urgency and call the reader to action.
