    Diversity in School offers training on gender, sexuality, and ethnic (race) relations for teaching professionals. The resource, originally delivered in Brazil, was the result of a partnership between the Brazilian Government’s Special Secretariat for Policies on Women, the Special Secretariat for the Promotion of Policies on Racial Equality (SEPPIR/PR), the Brazilian Ministry of Education, the British Council and the Latin American Centre on Sexuality and Human Rights.   3. Circle of life HIV/AIDS prevention for American Indian and Alaska native youth

    This article describes the objectives, theoretical bases, development process, and evaluation efforts to-date for the Circle of Life (COL) curricula, HIV/AIDS prevention interventions designed for American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) youth. The curricula are based on Indigenous models of learning and behavior encompassing concepts of Western theories of health behavior change. The curricula underwent extensive national and community review. Subsequent advances include the development of a computer-based version of the intervention.

  4. National aboriginal youth strategy on HIV and AIDS in Canada: For First Nations, Inuit and Métis youth from 2010 to 2015

    La Stratégie nationale de la jeunesse autochtone sur le VIH et le sida au Canada sert de guide et offre une approche globale pour les peuples autochtones du Canada, afin de diminuer les taux élevés du VIH et du sida, en particulier chez les jeunes autochtones. La SNJAVSC a été élaborée grâce aux conseils et aux suggestions des jeunes engagés, qui siègent au Conseil national de la jeunesse autochtone sur le VIH et le sida. Le succès de la SNJAVSC dépend de la collaboration avec le RCAS et ses partenaires et de la participation significative continue des jeunes autochtones du Canada dans l'élaboration des décisions, de la politique, de la programmation, de l'éducation et des approches liées aux questions du VIH et du sida. Les points forts et les déterminants sociaux de la santé des jeunes autochtones ont été exposés dans des approches basées sur les droits de l’homme et sur la diminution des effets négatifs. Lors de la mise en pratique de la SNJAVSC, il est fortement recommandé de mettre en oeuvre ses stratégies, ses objectifs et ses buts. Plus important encore, une approche intégrée, collaborative, culturellement pertinente et adaptée aux jeunes est au coeur de la réussite de la SNJAVSC. Cette stratégie est délivrée par le RCAS, avec des orientations et des conseils émis par des jeunes autochtones, afin d’améliorer la santé et le bien-être des personnes atteintes et affectées par le VIH et le sida au Canada.

  8. Multiculturalism and AIDS: different communities mean different educational messages required

    The multitude of ethnic communities in Canada means different approaches and methods must be used for health education. Canadian AIDS educators have used a range of approaches, including an AIDS bingo game for indigenous populations in northern Manitobaáand AIDS education messages in the streets of Toronto.

  9. Adolescents' reports of reproductive health education, 1988 and 1995

    This study used formal reproductive health education and communication with parents on reproductive health among 15-19 year old males from the National Survey of Adolescent Males (1988 and 1995). Female adolescent reports were taken from the 1995 National Survey of Family Growth. During this period, reproductive health education became almost universal among adolescent males. The percentage of males receiving information on HIV and AIDS rose from 73% to 97% and percentage receiving instruction on saying no to sex rose from 58% to 75%. Those who dropped out of school received less education. …

  10. A Tri-Level HIV-Prevention Educational Intervention

    This paper describes an intervention designed to provide HIV education at three levels: to students in a registered nurse baccalaureate-nursing program, lay health advisors, and African Americans in high risk communities. Students conducted needs assessments and prepared teaching plans, contributed to funding proposals and implemented and evaluated their programs. Lay health workers were trained as peer educators and were drawn from the high risk community, to increase their credibility. Of the 168 community participants, 151 completed both pre and post-test HIV knowledge exams. …

    Addressing Homophobia in Relation to HIV/AIDS in Aboriginal Communities (AHRHAAC) is a project of the Canadian Aboriginal AIDS Network (CAAN). AHRHAAC was created to look at how organizations serving Aboriginal people can help to create supportive and nonjudgmental environments for two-spirit people living with HIV/AIDS through the development of policies that address homophobia and by raising awareness in Aboriginal communities on how to address homophobia when it is a barrier to HIV/AIDS prevention and education. …

    Esta pesquisa teve por objetivo identificar aspectos culturais e psicossociais associados às vulnerabilidades de jovens afrodescendentes e brancos, no Brasil e na França, ao HIV/Aids.
