In recent years, Latin America and the Caribbean have seen progress in stemming the impact of HIV. Increased access to treatment, rapid testing technologies, coordinated prevention and education efforts, and the virtual elimination of mother-to-child transmission have helped reduce the overall HIV prevalence rate. HIV prevention messaging has been shown to reduce or delay high-risk sexual behaviors in young men who have sex with men (YMSM). Since the onset of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, a new generation of YMSM has come of age during an evolution in communication modalities. Because both these communication technologies and this new generation remain understudied, the authors investigated the manner in which YMSM interact with HIV prevention messaging. …

Data Collection: Two instructors in a leadership-preparation program incorporated reflection assignments into their respective social-justice-related courses. Equity in access to health care among people living with HIV has not been extensively studied in Peru. This research aims to assess the extent to which health care provision for persons living with HIV was equitable and where there was lower access, and the factors associated with lower access. The study was conducted among adult PLHA in four cities in Peru. Between September 2008 and January 2009, 863 individuals from four cities in Peru were enrolled. The study found that transgender identity and age younger than 35 years old, were associated with lower access to health care. …

Background: In 2009, 6.7% of the estimated 1.1 million persons living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection in the United States were youths (defined in this report as persons aged 13–24 years); more than half of youths with HIV (59.5%) were unaware of their infection.
