  2. Health-promoting schools initiative in Oman. A WHO case study in intersectoral action

    Schools are an important social setting that can be used to improve community health in general and the health of schoolchildren in particular. The Health-Promoting Schools Initiative is one of the measures implemented through joint planning between different sectors to enhance the quality of life of the Omani population. This document outlines the initiative in Oman from 2004 to 2008. It describes the health status of school-age children and the initiative in terms of mechanisms, tools that were used in improving intersectoral action, monitoring and evaluation, and lessons learnt.

    The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), in collaboration with the Population Council, convened a three-day workshop that took place 1-3 May 2002 at the Population Council's headquarters in New York.   14. Community involvement in reproductive health: findings from research in Karnataka, India

    Ths research project was carried out by the Foundation for Research in Health Systems (FRHS), a nongovernmental organization (NGO), from 2000 to 2002, as a new community-based health committee model in Karnataka state in southwestern India. The finding says that community-chosen village health committees collaborated successfully with health officials to develop community health awareness activities. Most of the committees leveraged additional local support and continued to function after the project ended. …

  15. The community-operated RH/BCC project in Myanmar

    This document was published with the support from United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the Japanese Organization for International Cooperation in Family Planning (JOICFP) which has executed a Regional Project for Asia, namely, Strengthening of National Capacity for RH/BCC through Community-operated RH (CoRH) Programmes" 2000-2003 (RAS/00/PO6). This project was aimed to achieve the goal of RH sub-programmes of the UNFPA, and Myanmar has choosen as pilot base for country level review and IEC strategy development along with the countries of Bangladesh, Cambodia and the Philippines.
