This five-year costed National Plan of Action addresses the survival, protection, care and support needs of the most vulnerable children in Nigeria. It was developed through consultative and participatory approaches among all stakeholders, including adults and children. The voices of children were heard, and their contributions were taken into account. The Plan adopts a rights-based approach in the development of the framework that will accelerate and provide guidance for the national response on orphans and vulnerable children.

It investigates the practical implications of the policy document in addressing provisions related to orphaned and vulnerable children and the teaching and learning of HIV/AIDS education. The overall objectives of this rapid survey undertaken by EduCan in early 2008 are to inform the development of both regional and national level education sector policies and strategies on school health, nutrition and HIV in the Caribbean region. The survey also aims to describe the current situation of education sector response to school health, nutrition, HIV and stigma, and to provide a baseline for monitoring progress. It also aims to provide data on the allocation and mobilization of resources used in such education sector responses across the region.

To assist Member States in preparing and submitting their 2010 Country Progress reports, UNAIDS has released the new UNGASS Guidelines on Construction of Core Indicators for 2010 reporting. The new guidelines provide essential information on the composition of core indicators for reporting including the purpose of the indicator, methods of measurement and a summary interpretation of the indicator. The guidelines are also intended to ensure consistency of information across countries for accurate global progress analysis.
