Description

The Ensemble of Karim Khani Buildings is considered as the fundamental structure of the old Shiraz from Zandiyeh up to the present time. As it has been constructed in different periods or one can see a footprint of urban elements from each period, it is ofparamount importance. Hence, it can be recognized as one of the comprehensive models of Iranian current architecture.

Justification of Outstanding Universal Value

Vl. As the only complete ensemble remains of Zandiyeh in Iran the property (includes the bath, Arg mosque, garden, law court, water reservoir, Caravansary and square) is concerned as an architectural masterpiece of the period. For instance utilizing lion heads and arches as decoration are of the peculiarities, these features have also been applied in other contemporary buildings.

As a tradition, the local governors allocated some budgets for construction of public buildings. By utilization of the best construction materials and techniques, Zandieh built this complex at its zenith.
