The first Urdu language e-edition of freedom of expression newsletter launched with UNESCO’s support

26-05-2009 (Ahmedpur East)
The first Urdu language e-edition of freedom of expression newsletter launched with UNESCO’s support
Sadiq News
The Rural Media Network Pakistan (RMNP), with the support of UNESCO, launched the electronic edition of the new monthly freedom of expression newsletter, Sadiq News. This newsletter, written in Urdu, is an opportunity to inform a large audience about issues related to freedom of expression locally and internationally.
The launching event took place on 26 April 2009, in Ahmedpur East, Pakistan. The speakers at the event paid tribute to UNESCO for backing RMNP activities and emphasized the important role that Sadiq News will play to defend freedom of expression and press freedom. Training materials provided by UNESCO (books, CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs) were distributed to rural journalists of four press clubs and two unions of journalists.

The Urdu-language newsletter will focus on press freedom, ethics, training and other matters of interest to rural journalists. It will collect information from the Rural Media Network, the National Press Union of Pakistan and from local reporters on press freedom violations in isolated areas.

The e-edition of Sadiq News will be distributed for free to rural journalists and media organizations in Pakistan. The newsletter will also strive to become an efficient tool for rural journalists to learn about their rights and to network with colleagues.

Sadiq News can be seen on the RMNP website at the following address: online-rmnp.tripod.com.

The Rural Media Network is an association of Pakistani journalists who aim to promote the media and the practice of journalism throughout the country.
