Países : Austria
Año : 2006

Bertha von Suttner, writer, pacifist and human rights activist, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1906 for her role in the European peace movement. Her friendship with Alfred Nobel inspired him to establish the Peace Prize. The specific event emphasized here – the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to a woman for the first time –, besides representing an important event in von Suttner’s life, also reflects UNESCO’s values. A variety of events, to take place in Austria and abroad, will commemorate Bertha von Suttner’s commitment to peace and human rights.
