| Législation | The Commission is currently entrusted to the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development. |
| Centre de documentation | The National Commission puts at the disposal of its visitors a Documentation Centre, which is administered by a trained librarian. The Centre holds some 10 000 books and reports, which mainly are UNESCO publications, as well as 100 periodicals, governmental reports, varied magazines and daily national or international newspapers bought by the Government.
The Documentation Centre welcomes about 2600 visitors a year (mainly students, academics, journalists and civil servants). |
| Structure de la Commission | The National Commission consists of the following bodies:
- The General Assembly.
- Committees.
Thera are five Committees, each of them being responsible for one of the following sector: Education, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Culture and Communication. There are Programme Committees for MAB, IHP, IOC, IGCP, IBGP, IIP and Natural and Cultural Heritage, which meet at least three times a year;
- The Secretariat.
There are 27 staff members working full-time in the Secretariat of the National Commission: 10 professionals and 17 support staff.
The membership of the Commission includes representants of the Ministries, national institutions, Non-Governmental Organizations and the media, as well as academics working on UNESCO's major sectors of activities and independent lawyers.
The National Commission does not have any Executive Committee. |

| Vue d'ensemble | The National Commission co-operates with a number of National Commissions, throughout the African Region and in Asia and the Pacific, as well as with the Field Offices of Nairobi and Dakar. In addition, the Commission effectively collaborates with National Commissions for UNESCO of other countries of the Region, particularly in the areas of teacher training, informatics and the MAB (Man and the Biosphere) Programme, as well as with some National Commissions in other Regions. |
