Unifying theme for UNESCO: contributing to peace and human development in an era of globalization through education, the sciences, culture & communication

    [SCIENCES] The challenge of sustainable development, whose strategic objectives are: Promoting principles and ethical norms to guide scientific and technological development and social transformation (4); Improving human security by better management of the environment and social change (5); Enhancing scientific, technical and human capacities to participate in the emerging knowledge societies(6).

UNESCO ROSTE's co-ordinated efforts at regional and national levels are based on the on the Medium-Term Strategy in Science in the European Region. UNESCO's commitment in and for Venice has been constant over the years following the disastrous flooding of 1966 and its presence in Venice is reinforced through its Regional Bureau's projects and activities.
