Sweden is involved in various earth sciences research projects.

There are many different ecosystems between the north of Lapland beyond the Arctic Circle, and the much milder climate of Skåne in southern Sweden. Nature plays a very important part in Swedish culture and tradition and the right to roam across any publicly or privately owned land is protected in The Right of Public Access.

There are some 2,600 nature reserves and 13 world heritage areas of which three have high natural values in Sweden. Two Swedish biosphere reserves are listed with UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere programme, and it is involved in a project aiming to study mountain ecosystems. Below you can access the projects that are currently being implemented in the country within the framework of UNESCO’s Natural Sciences Sector.
