Ecuador

Ecuador joined UNESCO on January 22, 1947; UNESCO Office Quito is the cluster office for Andean countries.

The country is working closely with UNESCO to implement its 10 year plan, adopted in 2006, to improve the education system.

Ecuador houses the first ever site to be featured on the World Heritage List in 1978: the Galapagos Islands. Due to a number of threats, it was added to the World Heritage in Danger list in 2007.

Under UNESCO’s Information for All Programme, Ecuador is participating in developing a conceptual e-government model to be adapted by World Heritage Cities.

Ecuador hosts UNESCO’s IOC (Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission) Ocean Data and Information Network for the Caribbean and South America Regions.
