United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural OrganizationCameroon joined UNESCO on 11 November 1960. It hosts a UNESCO Cluster Office in Yaoundé (covering Cameroon, the Central African Republic and Chad).
Education is Cameroon’s most vital development concern. UNESCO is assisting the country in scientific research, capacity-building and the management and evaluation of its educational system.
Cameroon participates in UNESCO’s Families First Africa Project, designed to break the cycle of HIV infection. The Chantal Biya center receives support for promoting HIV/AIDS information exchange, research and education.
UNESCO is also guiding Cameroon in communications development, notably through media training and community radio development. Cameroon’s sub-regional centre of excellence the Ecole Supérieure des Sciences et techniques de l'information et de la communication in Yaoundé (ESSTIC) is helping create a journalism school at Bangui University.
