The country is covered by the UNESCO Cluster Office in Accra, Ghana.

Many of Ghana’s major forest animals can be found in Bia Biosphere Reserve, such as the forest elephant, the globally endangered bongo and many primates. The site was part of the UNESCO-MAB Biosphere Reserves for Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Development in Anglophone Africa project (BRAAF). Through this project, a dialogue between local communities and the biosphere reserve administration has been established with regard to participation in decision making processes and resource management.
