Documentation CentreThe National Commission has settled a Documentation Centre gathering 1000 holdings, including publications from UNESCO, ALECSO and ISESCO. The Centre is computerized and administered by a trained documentalist (training courses offered by ALECSO and ISESCO).
The Centre is consulted by 1000 visitors each year (university students, researchers, and academics).
Structure of the CommissionThe National Commission consists of the following bodies:
- The General Assembly, which meets once a year, before UNESCO Executive Board and General Conference;
- Three Programme Committees, dealing with: (1) Education; (2) Science, and (3) Culture. The Programme Committees hold their meetings irregularly;
- The Secretariat.
Members/CompositionThe Membership of the Commission includes representatives of various government departments, Ministries, and national institutions specialized in the fields of UNESCO's competence. The Commission meets in Plenary once a year.
Executive CommitteeThe Commission has no Executive Committee.
General AssemblyThe General Assembly includes representatives of related and competent bodies in fields of education, culture and science. It holds its meetings once a year mainly before meetings of UNESCO's Executive Board and General Conference.
Committees or Sub-CommitteesThe Commission has Technical Committees on Education, Science and Culture which groups some distinguished scientists and experts. They meet periodically.
Interaction with UNESCO and National Commissions
OverviewThe Libyan National Commission for Education, Science and Culture collaborates with other National Commissions within the Arab States Region and maintains good working relations with the UNESCO Field Offices in Rabat, Cairo and Beirut.
