The country is covered by the UNESCO Office in Apia, Samoa.
The Cook Islands, located in the South Pacific Ocean, are nine volcanic islands and numerous low-lying, sparsely populated coral atolls. The Sustainable Development in Coastal Regions and Small Islands (CSI) project that the Cook Islands are currently involved in seeks to overcome the isolation of small islands by building capacity and strengthening local, regional, and inter-regional communication.
