Lao People's Democratic Republic

The Lao People’s Democratic Republic joined UNESCO on July 9, 1951.

The country is implementing an Education for All National Action Plan. A 2006 study resulted in recommendations for reinforcing skills development to meet EFA goals.

UNESCO and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic have worked together since the 1990s to preserve the Champasak Cultural landscape, site which includes the Vat Phou temple complex. More than 1,000 years old and an important part of the country’s archaeological heritage, it expresses the Hindu vision of the relationship between nature and humanity.

In May 2006, the country became a member state of the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM).
