Samoa

Samoa joined UNESCO on April 3, 1981. The country hosts UNESCO’s Cluster Office for the Pacific. Established in 1983, the UNESCO Apia Office covers 16 Member States and 1 Associate Member.

The “Digitalization of Radio Archives” project exemplifies the many successful collaborations between Samoa and UNESCO. It focused on the Samoa Broadcasting Corporation’s archives of over 2500 tapes, recording local music and culture but also political and religious events of over 40 years of Samoa’s history.

As of September 2006, the country has 73 schools enrolled in UNESCO’s Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet).

Samoa participates in a regional ocean monitoring network and in the Pacific Tsunami Warning System, among other projects with UNESCO’s Natural Sciences sector.
