Hyper-Traditions

The 10th conference of the International Association for the Study of Traditional Environments (IASTE) will take place at the Imperial Queens Park.
The term “hyper” is used to refer to social and cultural realms, created and maintained through contemporary technologies of communication, transportation and information transfer which have radically transformed notions of time and space and thereby changed forever the meanings of distance in immediacy.

Scholars and practitioners in the fields of architecture, architectural history, art history, anthropology, archaeology, geography, history, planning, sociology, urban studies, and related areas will present papers on the following three themes:

  • From Simulated Space to “Real” Traditions and Vice Versa;
  • Hyper-Traditions in “Real” Places;
  • Identity, Heritage, and Migration.
