Preservation of the Buddhist Monastery of Ajina Tepa 

The International Steering Committee holds its yearly meeting to ensure the overall supervision and monitoring of the implementation of the UNESCO/Japan Trust Fund project concerning the heritage of the Ancient Silk Roads. 
Its specific objectives are tot:
  • advise the Government of Tajikistan and UNESCO on issues that may arise in connection with the execution of the project;
  • review project activities conducted in 2007 and approve the work plan for further activities including the building of the Shelter Structure above the Stupa area of Ajina Tepa site. 

The International Steering Committee comprises all project stakeholders and representatives of the Japanese Embassy in Tajikistan and of UNDP.  Also attending the meeting will be international experts from Japan and Italy, representatives of the Tajik authorities and experts and UNESCO representatives.

The meeting is organized by the UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office in collaboration with the National Commission of the Republic of Tajikistan for UNESCO.
