Meiway

"If Aids comes to your door, don't let it in."
affichemeiway.gif

UNESCO House in Paris hosted an excellent concert by Ivorian musician Meiway on behalf of the struggle against Aids on 20 November 2004. The occasion was organized as part of World AIDS Campaign 2004 and World AIDS Day (1 December) by UNESCO and the French AIDS Association ‘SIDA Info Service’. Sponsored by Malian artist Rokia Traoré under the title "Africans Here and Down There Together Fighting AIDS", this jamboree of discussions, exchanges and celebrations was an invitation to African men and women scattered far and wide to join in the combat against HIV/AIDS.

Born in 1962, Meiway has developed his very own style blending traditional rhythms and contemporary tones. Many of his songs aim to inform the peoples of Africa of the importance of preventing and controlling AIDS.
