From 10 to 14 October, Sapporo, UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts in Japan, will be hosting the 2018 edition of No Maps. Sapporo Creative Convention No Maps is an event that seeks to cross borders between media arts, music, film, education, urban development, with the aim to draw new ideas for social experiment in Sapporo and Hokkaido.
Since 13 September until 21 October, Sapporo Tenjinyama Art Studio, together with the City of Sapporo, invite artists in the field of media arts and visual arts to take part in an open call for its winter residency program.
From 2 to 11 February 2018, a new edition of Yukiterrace is taking place in the Creative City of Media Arts of Sapporo, Japan. This year, the event dedicated to combining the power of media arts and the suggestive nature of the city’s winter, is expanding its horizon through a partnership with Linz, the Austrian Creative City of Media Arts.
From 5 to 15 October, the Creative City of Media Arts of Sapporo, Japan, has hosted another edition of No Maps, the Japanese creative convention, designed to create new business opportunities from the intersection of cutting edge technologies and to explore the interconnectivity of creative forms.
Since last 6 August until 1 October 2017, the second edition of Sapporo International Art Festival (SIAF) is held in the Creative City of Media Arts. Triennial festival, incepted in 2014, is a unique example uniting not only contemporary art but also design, music and television. Various forms of expression are integrated into this festival including performances, scenic events and projects including the participation of inhabitants.
From 16 to 19 February, Sapporo, a Creative City of Media Arts, is holding an outdoor exhibition displaying the work of the emerging media artist Norimichi Hirakawa, at Moerenuma Park, which will be hosting the 2017 Sapporo International Art Festival (SIAF) in a few months. Entitled “Datum”, the art installation brings city dwellers to multi-dimensional experience through a skillful calculation of images and sounds.
From 4 to 12 February, Sapporo joins forces with fellow Creative City of Media Arts Gwangju to bring a multi-media snow experience to one of the city’s main squares. Five distinct artistic installations greet city dwellers, housed inside igloos on the background of the transfigured snowy white of Sapporo Kita 3-jo Plaza “Akapla.”
From 18 November to 25 December, citizens and onlookers are invited to (re)discover the “Sapporo White Illumination”, which sheds light on the site of Odori of the Creative City of Media Arts. The “White Illumination” project started in 1981 and was the first illumination event in Japan. Its concept of expressing the beauty of snowy landscapes with light had a big impact on other Japanese cities, and ever since, illumination events spread all over Japan.
From 10 to 16 October, Sapporo, Creative City of Media Art, organises the comprehensive and cutting-edge international event “No Maps”, which will cross over industry, science and culture through competitions, exhibitions, conferences, workshops, markets and short films screenings, as well as mixing the fields of music, media arts and film.
Sapporo Yukiterrace project is turning the city’s snowy winters into a creative space by giving the opportunity to artists of expressing themselves through the leitmotiv of snow and light.
