Burundi: Awareness building and anti-piracy seminar, 28 - 29 September 2005

The UNESCO Field Office in Bujumbura organized a seminar to raise awareness among the national authorities and cultural professionals

The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture of Burundi organized in Bujumbura, with support from UNESCO, a training seminar on the “Exploitation of works protected by copyright”, with a  focus on the “Fight against  Piracy”. The main objectives of the seminar were to raise awareness among creators about their rights so that they could better enforce them, among users on bad practices and to strongly prohibit illegal exploitation of works.

Among several lectures on copyright and collective management, a training session on the means to fight piracy was delivered to the 60 participants - governmental officials, lawyers, journalists, creators, performers, producers, broadcasters and private sector representatives. Recommendations to the creators, public authorities, the media and concerned fields were adopted at the end of the seminars and largely circulated.
