A State Party to the World Heritage Convention, Sao Tome and Principe has several sites on its territory that could appear on its Tentative List.

Also interested in protecting its living traditions, the government has ratified the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.

In the framework of the Slave Route Project, Sao Tome and Principe has participated in the implementation of the Tourism of Memory programme.

Crafts are another area of interest, and the country is seeking to adapt local production to the demands of the international market.
