Tunisia is represented on the World Heritage List by seven cultural sites and one natural site.

The natural site of Ichkeul National Park was removed from the List of World Heritage in
Danger thanks to measures taken by the Tunisian authorities. Numerous species of birds have returned following the reduction in the salinity of its lake and marshes.

UNESCO is helping with the restoration of the Medina in Tunis as well as with research for conservation of heritage in the modern world.

Tunisia is also considering establishing cultural tourism programmes based on restored sites and preserved cultural traditions. The country is also involved in the Sahara of Cultures and People project, which aims to fight poverty through sustainable development of tourism.
