Cooperation between Egypt and UNESCO in the area of culture is distinguished by several prestigious projects that have resulted in the safeguarding of many Nubian monuments, which constitute an immeasurable a heritage that belongs not only to Egypt but to all of humanity.

This cooperation has led to the creation of the Nubia Museum at Aswan and the construction of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Cairo, which is scheduled to open in late 2009. In the meantime, an innovative underwater museum in Alexandria will be completed.
The projects have been carried out in close collaboration with UNESCO, which provided materials and helped to train staff. In addition, this collaboration has also resulted in the restoration of the paintings in one of the tombs in the Valley of the Kings.
The Al-Sirah Al-Hilaliyyah epic has been proclaimed as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2003.
UNESCO has also lend its support in favour of a cultural approach to the prevention and treatment of HIV and AIDS.
