Within the framework of the recommendations of the Cardoso Report and the UNESCO 2008-2013 Medium Term Strategy underlining the necessity to develop a genuine culture of partnership with all civil society actors, UNESCO wishes to reinforce the UNESCO Clubs Movement. In this regard, a Congress of the UNESCO Clubs Movement of the Latin American and Caribbean Region will be organized, in Panama City, Panama, on 22 and 23 June 2008.
This Congress will address five priority UNESCO themes identified according to fields of activity of the clubs of this region: (i) Education for All, (ii) Culture of peace and cultural diversity, (iii) Human Rights and Democracy young defenders, (iv) Environmental protection. An introductory session will be dedicated to mechanisms of partnership with Clubs for UNESCO.
The hosting of this Congress has been initiated to the outcomes of the 1st and 2nd Ad hoc Meetings of the Movement in this region, organized in February 2006, in San José, Costa Rica, and in February 2007, in Kingston, Jamaica.
