3 of the 6 EFA Goals identified in Dakar specifically address women and girls and/or gender equality.

Guided by this landmark event, UNESCO’s strategic objectives in the area of Education are to :

• Promote education as a fundamental right in accordance with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights;

• Improve the quality of education through the diversification of contents and methods and the promotion of universally shared values ;

• Promote experimentation, innovation and the diffusion and sharing of information and best practices as well as policy dialogue in education.
