UNESCO celebrates International Women's Day 2011
The Division for Gender Equality of the Office of the Director-General, is organizing a series of events, in collaboration with a diverse range of partners, to celebrate International Women's Day.
 
Every year in March, UNESCO celebrates International Women’s Day (March 8) by hosting a flagship programme, consisting of round-tables, conferences, exhibitions and cultural events that highlight issues relating to the empowerment of women and the promotion of gender equality.

Conference – "Launch of the EFA Global Monitoring Report 2011: The Hidden Crisis: Armed Conflict and Education" - (ODG/GE)

On 8 March, will take place the Headquarters Launch of the EFA Global Monitoring Report 2011 “ The Hidden Crisis: Armed Conflict and Education", with a presentation of findings from the Report. Chaired by the Director-General, Ms Irina Bokova.

The launch of the Global Monitoring Report 2011 will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the International Women’s Day (IWD), for which the theme chosen this year by the United Nations is "Equal Access to Education, Training, and Science and Technology: Pathway to Decent Work".

Round Table – “Women’s Empowerment – Social, Educational and Cultural Leadership”. - (ODG/GE)

The Round Table will focus on women’s leadership skills in the social, educational and cultural areas in Thailand.

Within the framework of their exhibition “Women at Work, Women’s Lives”, some of the participating artists will give us an opportunity to better understand the rationale of the exhibition which pays tribute to women’s strength and courage while facing poverty and oppression.

Round Table – “Matriarchal Societies Around the World”. - (ODG/GE)

The Round Table will focus on the promotion of women’s empowerment and gender equality in some of the matriarchal contexts around the world as photographed by HRH Princess Beatriz von Hohenlohe.
