INDIAN OCEAN - Mauritius Activities

Civil Society Forum, January 2005

Because of its active involvement in the preparatory meetings for the Review of the SIDS Programme of Action, CEDREFI was chosen as the host organisation to convene the Civil Society Forum from January 6 to 9, 2005, just prior to the main United Nations meeting. Small Islands Voice provided support to CEDREFI for the Civil Society Forum.

The Civil Society Declaration was presented to the delegates at the Main UN Meeting on 10th January 2005.

One of CEDREFI's key goals was to develop a common position for civil society in the AIMS region, a disperse region which is spread geographically over two oceans and several seas.

Furthermore, CEDREFI worked to ensure that key national groups from Mauritius: trade unions, fishermen community, small planters/producers and NGOs, are involved in the Programme of Action - before, during and after the meeting.
