  2. Serving as a centre of expertise and reference on youth perspectives at UNESCO headquarters in its capacity as a non-governmental partner;
  3. Advocating and participating in the dissemination of UNESCO programmes important to the youth public and youth organizations;
  4. Promoting youth mainstreaming in the performance and the process of decision making at UNESCO.

Examples of cooperation between UNESCO and JPC:

Youth Week, 14-18 August 2006
In celebration of UNESCO’s 60th anniversary a series of “thematic weeks”, allowing UNESCO, its Member States and all of its partners to highlight, week after week, 60 themes of actions, were organized at UNESCO from 5 September 2005 until 4 November 2006. Given the high priority of youth for the Organisation, a whole week was devoted to exploring UNESCO's action with and for young people. This week, entitled 'Acting with and for Youth' was in conjunction with the International Youth Day on 12 August 2006, dedicated to 'fighting poverty together.' UNESCO coordinated the preparation of the activities at Headquarters and the contribution of UNESCO Sectors, Field offices, Member States and other partners. The JPC on Youth mobilized about 70 local and international volunteers active in work camps in France to assist at the events taking place at Headquarters.

Open Forum on Youth of the 175th Session of the Executive Board of UNESCO, 28-29 September 2006
In the context of the revitalization of the Committee on International Non-Governmental Organizations of UNESCO’s Executive Board, particularly in the area of UNESCO’s cooperation with young people and youth NGOs, the Open Forum on Youth provided an opportunity for members of the Committee, representatives of NGOs (among them eleven youth NGOs of the JPC on Youth) and UNESCO to present flagship projects and examples of fruitful cooperation. The participants were also able to share their suggestions and expectations with their respective partners, including suggestions on the way forward.
