Launch of the Arabic version of the book Human Rights: Questions and Answers by Leah Levin (illustrated by Plantu) |

The Arabic version of the book Human Rights: Questions and Answers by Leah Levin (illustrated by Plantu), translated and printed with the support of the Italian Development Cooperation – Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was presented in Rabat (Morocco), on Wednesday 25 November 2009.
The event, chaired by His Excellency the Ambassador of Italy in Morocco, Mr Umberto Lucchesi Palli, and the UNESCO representative in Rabat, Mr Philippe Quéau, took place at the Italian Cultural Institute.
The Arabic translation of the updated version (May 2009), aims to make it, on the one hand, more accessible to a misinformed public and, on the other, to give also a response to the obvious lack of support in this area. The book, which will be distributed in 22 Arab countries, constitutes a tool to raise awareness on the culture of human rights among NGOs, human rights institutions and civil society in the Arab region.
Human Rights: Questions and Answers provides clear, concise and up-to-date information on the main human rights instruments, their promotion and protection mechanisms, organizations working for human rights, and major international events. It also includes reflection on the main challenges that need to be taken up in relation to human rights. The book is divided into two parts. The first part of the book describes the main instruments of international law and human rights protection, whereas the second part clarifies the meaning of the different articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Published for the first time in 1981, it has been updated several times and translated into more than 30 languages. This revised edition reflects the most important and recent developments in the field of human rights. The publication is one of UNESCO’s contributions to the International Year of Human Rights Learning (2009) and the World Programme for Human Rights Education, launched in 2005. It is a useful guide for anyone interested in the subject and aims to contribute to a universal culture of human rights.
