Proteger la diversidad cultural mediante la salvaguardia del patrimonio.
Con objeto de proteger lo mejor posible la diversidad cultural, las acciones de la UNESCO se centran en los sitios donde se expresan las identidades culturales múltiples, los que son representativos del patrimonio cultural de minorías, y los que tienen un valor fundador o están especialmente expuestos al riesgo de desaparecer.
Estas actividades se llevan a cabo en estrecha colaboración con el Centro del Patrimonio Mundial.
