The Division of Science Policy and Sustainable Development (part of the Natural Sciences Sector, UNESCO) and the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) have carried out a worldwide consultation on science, technology and innovation (STI) statistics and indicators. There are valuable institutional experiences in Central Asian countries regarding STI policy-relevant indicators.
The main objective of this regional consultation is to analyze recent international experiences and trends regarding STI indicators, to discuss STI policy-relevant indicators for transition countries, and to promote capacity building activities regarding STI indictors. Important issues for transition economies will be analyzed, particularly those concerning incremental innovation processes and the need to link S&T data and policy to major economic policies.
