The Czech Republicís 6 biosphere reserves are actively implementing conservation, traditional management and educational projects. The Krivoklatsko biosphere reserve has been involved in research, monitoring and education since 1979. The Krkonose/Karkonosze Transboundary Biosphere Reserve is shared with Poland.

The country is active in a large number of UNESCOís earth science projects, from the study of karst aquifers to the development of Variscan biotas. The Bohemian Paradise Geopark includes elements of the Lower Paleozoic, volcanic deposits and rare dolomite caves.
