Since the early 1980s, the HIV/AIDS epidemic has spread rapidly throughout the African continent. By the end of 2001 an estimated 29 million people were living with HIV in Africa. That same year 3.5 million people became newly infected with the disease and 2.2 million individuals died from AIDS-related causes. At the end of 2001, more than 14 million children worldwide had lost one or both parents to the epidemic. This review seeks to acertain how high a risk group teachers are by exploring the evidential requirements and whether or not they are met. It would have had to be proved that: i) Teachers characteristically predisposed to high-risk sexual behaviour; ii) Teachers engage in high risk sexual behaviour; iii) HIV prevalence rates are relatively higher among teachers compared to the adult population as a whole; iv)AIDS related mortality rates are higher among teachers than the rest of the adult population. …
This analysis paper focuses on various views on the dynamics of HIV infection and AIDS in Central African Countries. It is observed that most HIV infection occurs through heterosexual contact and the paper gives reasons for the great difference between rates of heterosexual transmission in developed countries as compared to African developing countries.
