Documentation Centre and Library 

With 63.000 books, documents and non-print media in the area of: 

  • Adult Education 
  • Literacy 
  • Non-formal Education 
  • and Lifelong Learning 
the Documentation Centre and Library of the UNESCO-Institute for Education is one of the most comprehensive collections of this kind worldwide. Started in 1952, the collection comprises today of about 60 % English language materials, followed by German, French, Spanish and a variety of other language publications.

The Documentation Centre and Library is accessible during opening hours. Residents of Hamburg can borrow materials - except periodicals and reference materials - free of charge for four weeks.

Online Catalogue 

The Documentation Centre catalogue, listing more than 14.000 materials since 1991, is accessible online. Older material can be accessed via a card catalogue in the Documentation Centre and Library.

Special Collection 

The Documentation Centre holds a Special Collection of at present more than 7.000 sample learning materials used in adult literacy, post-literacy and out-of-school education from more than 120 countries in more than 160 languages. The Special Collection catalogue is accessible online.

Periodicals 

The Documentation Centre currently receives 200 educational and social science periodicals (journals, newsletters and magazines) from all over the world.
