UNESCO-WLA Agreement

Welsh Literature in the Collection of Representative Works

Welsh Literature Abroad (WLA), has agreed to identify one to three contemporary novels from among the titles pre-selected by WLA for a translation subsidy and to propose them to UNESCO for inclusion in the Collection of Representative Works.

The novels will conform to the literary quality criteria habitually adopted by WLA in the selection of titles chosen for subsidy and translation. In addition, they will have the following characteristics:

· They will be as yet unpublished or have only been circulated to a limited extent in any language other than the original;

· Enjoy full visibility in Wales and reflect important aspects of the Welsh culture;

· They will be of outstanding literary quality and show great potential as long-term sellers;

They will not contain any expressions advocating violence, discrimination or social hatred.
