La 63ª sesión de la Asamblea General de las Naciones General aprobó una resolución por la que se proclama 2011 Año Internacional de la Química, confiriendo a la UNESCO y la Unión Internacional de Química Pura y Aplicada (IUPAC) la dirección y coordinación de las actividades relacionadas con este evento.
