Dragutin Gorjanovic Kramberger a contribué à l'essor de la géologie, de la paléontologie et de la paléoanthropologie en Europe et dans le monde. Il a également participé à la découverte et à l'étude de la plus riche collection de vestiges de l'homme de Néandertal à Krapina. Il a été le premier à utiliser les rayons X pour analyser la structure des os fossilisés. Il est l'auteur d'une monumentale monographie sur les Néandertaliens de Krapina (« Der Diluviale Mensch von Krapina in Kroatien ») publiée en 1906.
