Sixth Ordinary Session of the Conference of Parties to the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions

This sixth session of the Conference of Parties will provides Parties as well as observers with a space to share information on the impact of the Convention in their countries.
This sixth session of the Conference of Parties will approve operational guidelines on the implementation of the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions in the digital environment. Designed to better address questions of digital governance, they aim to encourage new policies and measures that recognize and value the work of creators in the digital environment, introduce preferential treatment provisions to ensure more balanced flow in the digital distribution of cultural goods and services, and promote human rights in the digital environment, including the empowerment of women and girls.

Parties will have opportunity to present their activities to implement the Convention at the national and international levels. The Conference will also decide on the future activities of the Committee for 2017-2019. The Parties will review the new quadrennial periodic reports of the Parties to the Convention, as well as the reports on the status of the International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD) and the implementation of its fundraising strategy. In addition, the Conference of the Parties will elect 12 new members of the Intergovernmental Committee.

The first Civil Society Forum will be held on 12 June at 11 am at UNESCO Headquarters (Room II).

The Conference of Parties is made up of representatives of 145 Parties to the Convention. They meet in ordinary session every two years in June.
