The WWAP training program consists of six macro-modules and intends to raise awareness about the links between water resources and gender issues instill the importance of sex-disaggregated data collection in projects or research, as well as in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. More specifically, trainees will gain understanding on the intrinsic interconnections between gender issues and water management, gender-related concepts, the WWAP Gender Toolkit, data collection, and how to apply these concepts to practice.

The capacity building training is executed by experienced WWAP staff and is addressed to Government officers, academia members, private sector and NGOs. It is tailored to fit different scales of application, from regional to local. The training will contribute to the integration of sex-disaggregated indicators into regional/sub-regional/ national strategies, and improve the use of gender statistics and related analysis for informed adaptation of related water policies and strategies. It will also promote the availability of sex-disaggregated water data and the gender-sensitive monitoring of regional trends and progress towards Agenda 2030-related achievements.

The trainees’ newly acquired knowledge and skills are tested throughout the session by means of a number of practical exercises and tests. Upon successful completion of the session, the trainees will obtain a special certification that allows them to teach the application of the WWAP indicators and the use of the toolkit.

The WWAP Gender Training on ‘Sex-Disaggregated Data Collection and Analysis’ has already been conducted at the following locations:

• 30-31 March: Botswana, Department of Water Affairs
• 3-4 April: South-Africa, Water Research Commission (WRC) Offices

6-7 April: France, UNESCO HQ:
