UNESCO Hamdan Prize

About Hamdan Award

The “Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for the Distinguished Academic Performance” is UNESCO’s partner for the establishment of the Prize. It was created in March 1998 by His H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Deputy Ruler and the United Arab Emirates Minister of Finance & Industry, the donor of the UNESCO-Hamdan Prize.

The Hamdan Award seeks to improve the quality of the educational system and encourages initiatives, innovation and excellence in all literary and scientific domains. Initially limited in scope to Dubai, the Award was expanded to cover all the Emirates, and then the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries through the award called Best Applied Education Research in the Arab Nation.

The Award Sponsor also issued directives to create “The National Centre for The Gifted and The Distinguished”, which is affiliated to the Award. The Centre is also a member of the “World Council for Gifted & Talented Children”.

The gradual expansion of the scope of the Award reached the international level when the Donor approached UNESCO for establishing the “UNESCO-Hamdan Prize for Outstanding Practice and Performance in Enhancing the Effectiveness of Teachers” in 2008.
