Learning Kits on Biodiversity

Biodiversity learning kits are concrete tools designed to support biodiversity-related education, communication and public awareness. UNESCO’s learning kits promote an understanding of biodiversity issues and challenges for young people especially, and also for the general public. They encourage actions towards the conservation and the sustainable and equitable use of biodiversity and provide decision-makers and teachers with a concrete tool to develop and implement effective initiatives aimed at biodiversity communication and education.

Biodiversity Learning Kit

Developed jointly by UNESCO and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) on the occasion of the UN Decade on Biodiversity (2011-2020), this kit responds to the need to develop concrete tools, in support of biodiversity communication, education and public awareness.

YouthXchange- towards sustainable lifestyles

Training kit on responsible consumption

This guide and the related website are intended as a tool kit to help teachers and trainers, NGOs and youth groups to help raise awareness of Sustainable Consumption and empower youth to put theory into practice.

Educational resource kit for mountainous regions

The kit was produced recently by the UNESCO Division of Ecological and Earth Sciences and its Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB). It includes a manual for teachers and an activity book to be completed by pupils, using a fun and engaging approach so that 10 to 15 year-olds living in mountainous areas can learn about their environment and its specific issues, such as soil erosion. Its contents have been designed as part of the activities for the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014).

Teaching Resource Kit for Dryland Countries

A Creative Approach to Environmental Education

The purpose of the kit is to help teachers transmit scientific information and environmental knowledge to their pupils in an entertaining and appealing way.
The longer-term objective is to develop the ability to combat land degradation and desertification among pupils and their communities while endeavoring to
conserve biodiversity.

Education Kit on Combating Desertification

This educational resource material consists of a teacher’s guide, a compilation of case studies, cartoons and a poster. It was first developed and launched by UNESCO in 2000 in collaboration with the Secretariat of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) to respond to the need to raise public awareness of this pressing environmental problem.
