Poster - The European Night of Museums 2017
UNESCO is proud to participate for the 9th consecutive year in the European Night of Museums by opening once more it doors to the general public.
This year, the public will be given the opportunity to visit the temporary exhibition presented by Tunisia, the Organization’s partner for the 2017 edition of the European Night of Museums. This exhibition will focus on the Tunisian archeological site of Dougga, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List 20 years ago. It will highlight a series of archaeological works dating from the 1st century B.C. to the 2nd century A.D. coming from the renowned National Bardo Museum in Tunisia, as well as historic black and white photographs illustrating the discovery and restoration of the site.
As in past years, the European Night of Museums will also give the public a chance to discover the modern architecture of the Organization’s Headquarters – designed by Marcel Breuer, Luigi Nervi and Bernard Zehrfuss – and a part of its rich art collection, including works by Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Alexander Calder, Erró, Alberto Giacometti, Eduardo Chillida, Henry Moore, Rufino Tamayo or Isamu Noguchi, among others.
Within a global context placing cultural diversity and the freedom of peoples across the world in peril, it is important to persevere in this large-scale event that makes culture accessible to all and carries a message of tolerance, mutual understanding and peace.
Admission to this event is free and without prior booking, from 8 pm until midnight (last admission). Entrance at 7 place de Fontenoy (exit at 125 avenue de Suffren). Multilingual guides will be present throughout the evening to offer explanations on the works of art and answer any questions.
