UNESCO's international symposium and policy forum on girls' education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics
UNESCO's first international symposium and policy forum on girls' education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) will examine girls' disadvantage in STEM studies and careers worldwide, and what the education sector can do to address gender gaps in STEM.
It will provide space to share and discuss the factors that impact on girls' participation and achievement in STEM fields, and good practice worldwide.
Participation is by invitation only.
The event is organized jointly by UNESCO HQ and UNESCO's Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau for Education.
Interactive sessions, workshops and exhibitions will serve as a platform for knowledge and experience-sharing and policy debate, leading to:
- Increased knowledge on the status of girls' education in STEM worldwide, and factor impacting on girls' participation and achievement
- Enhanced awareness of policies and practices that are effective in supporting girls' and women's education in STEM
- Strengthened global, regional and country networks, partnerships and cooperation on girls' and women's education in STEM
The event is designed to maximize opportunities for interactions, networking, and hands-on learning among participants.
