Regional Conference on "Recentring Humanities: Theories, Approaches, Knowledge Production in the Arab region"

As part of the preparation for the World Humanities Conferences (Liege, August 2017), the Arab regional conference on "Recentring Humanities: Theories, approaches, knowledge production in the Arab region” will be organized by the Arab Council for Social Sciences (ACSS) in cooperation with UNESCO and in coordination with the International Center on Human Sciences (CISH).

The Arab Regional Conference has 3 main objectives:

1) To formulate, for the attention of the World Conference of Humanities, proposals and recommendations that can inform the global debate with an Arab perspective on the role of the humanities in the understanding and management of social transformations.

2) Develop proposals for national and regional institutions that can promote the strengthening of historical disciplines, and more generally of the humanities and their increased presence in the public debate.

3) Provide a framework for pilot initiatives, particularly at universities, particularly those that entail international scientific cooperation, and that can promote a new dynamic Arab humanities.

The expected participants include: Arab social scientists, Social and Humanities Research Centers, Policy makers, national and regional academic associations, Civil society organizations.

The World Humanities Conference will take place in Liège, Belgium, from 6 to 12 August 2017. It will be preceded by a series of conferences and other academic events, engaging all continents. The conference, which will involve scholars from all fields of the humanities, but also of the natural, social and formal sciences, is open to all possible contributions.
