About the Project



In this project local communities in Mozambique and South Africa address issues of malaria, youth unemployment and HIV/SIDA. They (re-)discover local and global knowledge, experiences and wisdom in these areas. They use information and communication technology to develop their own contents and learning tools, which support their individual and collective learning processes. They use local (tele-)centers and transform them into places of meaningful learning and community-building. At all stages they take into account the relations, needs and perspectives of both men and women, girls and boys in an effort to promote equity between them.

KEY QUESTIONS

  • Learner and social-needs driven and not technology driven uses of information and communication technology (ICTs) - How can the use of information and communication technology (ICTs) support meaningful learning for community-building and gender-equity?

  • Active participation rather than passive consumerism in the emerging information societies- How can local communities, especially women and adolescent girls, critically use and actively shape ICT based content to support their learning processes?

  • Beyond service provision to shaping a new landscape of learning opportunities - How can conventional tele- or other community centers become spaces of community learning, which create synergies between local and global knowledge systems?



    OBJECTIVES

  • Promote community-building and learning for gender equity through critical ICT use and content development in critical areas of concern.

  • Show and explore the interrelations between the involvement of user groups in ICT based content development and their individual and community learning processes.

  • Build and share knowledge on ICT uses for meaningful learning and community-building through action research at local and global levels.



    STRATEGIES

  • Assessing individual and collective learning needs and the role of ICT uses in selected communities, both from a gender aware perspective.

  • Facilitating participatory ICT based content development for individual and community learning and positive change.

  • Documenting and sharing experiences and insights.
