France Pablo Campos Quintet

###

Pablo Campos (piano, voice), Jérôme Etcheberry (trumpet), Nicolas Montier (tenor saxophone), Sebastien Girardot (bass) and Germain Cornet (drums)

With this group, Pablo Campos realizes a dream: to perform with a five-piece group the repertoire of his favorite singers, from Nat King Cole to Frank Sinatra and Mel Tormé.

Inspired by the collaborations between singer Joe Williams and trumpeter Harry “Sweets” Edison, two pillars of the Count Basie orchestra, Campos’ quintet is known as a “pocket big band” and its arrangements are conceived as reductions of those from Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Quincy Jones, Marty Paich, and Neal Hefti.

A magnificent evening homage to jazz on the day dedicated to it.

Turkey Flapper Swing feat. Antti Sarpila

Nevin Hetmanek (vo), Antti Sarpila (clt), Tamer Temel (s), Tomas Hetmanek (g), Erhan Erbelger (g), Volkan Topakoğlu (b).

Flapper Swing is a quintet following in the footsteps of famous french jazz artists Django Reinhardt, Stephane Grappelli and New Orleans’s expatriate Sidney Bechet. These five musicians were brought together by their passion for the taunting acoustic sounds of gypsy swing . Flapper Swing’s music is a sweet blend of manouche guitars, wild soprano saxophone, and sensitive silklike vocals, supported by deep woody hum of double bass. For more intimate settings, the band can also perform as a trio of two guitars and a vocalist. In their performances, Flapper Swing is striving to bring the audience an atmosphere of the roaring twenties and ballroom parties, the time when jazz was still fun. The band on April 30 is going to feature a great clarinetist from Finland, Antti Sarpila.

CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL JAZZ DAY with the JOHNNY O’NEAL TRIO
Tickets available by phone, or from our website.
FREE VALET PARKING!

Johnny O’Neal, born October 10, 1956 in Detroit, Michigan, is an American neo-bop jazz pianist and vocalist. His playing ranges from the technically virtuosic to the tenderest of ballad interpretations. Though unique in style, he is influenced by many jazz elders, including Oscar Peterson and Art Tatum. He has performed with Art Blakey, Russell Malone, Clark Terry, Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Brown, Nancy Wilson, Joe Pass and Kenny Burrell. On the recommendation of Oscar Peterson, O’Neal portrayed Art Tatum in the 2004 movie Ray, convincingly recreating Tatum’s sound on the song “Yesterdays”. In an interview, pianist Mulgrew Miller said, “In my generation of musicians there are two artists who are probably the most naturally talented. One is Kenny Garrett, the saxophonist. The other is pianist Johnny O’Neal. This concert is in the beautiful Capital Room and food and drink are available in the cabaret setting.
